Possible: Have We Turned Trauma Into An Identity? - and, big news from me!
A powerful interview with psychologist, breathwork researcher and author Richard L. Blake - AND, a blog announcing my first ever speaker signing! Fans of the show might well recognise him...
This is a conversation that begins with breathwork, but quickly becomes about therapy culture, trauma, resilience and why Richard believes we’ve fundamentally changed the way we think about mental health.

We discuss whether therapy can sometimes make people worse, why family estrangement is becoming more common, the science behind breathwork, the rise of “therapy speak”, the role of genetics in depression and anxiety, and why Richard believes we’ve become psychologically more fragile.
A conversation that challenges the status quo, and hopefully leaves you questioning what you know, just as it did me.

I’m curious about the balance between providing language that affirms people's experiences and preventing that language from becoming a static label for identity. While naming trauma can foster understanding, I question how we can keep the experience meaningful without it needing to define the entire person.
